Vivian and Chris, can you remember when you first started mentoring?
Vivian: I was in 4th grade and I was still 9.
Chris: That makes it 3 years, but it feels longer than that. I feel like I have known Vivian forever... since she was a wee squirt.
Do you have a favorite book you have read together?
Vivian: I think my favorite was “Princess of Glass”
Chris: Really!?! That was fun, one that I liked also. When we first started reading together you wanted to read graphic novels, so I was pretty excited when you picked that book because it was a big, actual novel.
Vivian: And ever since then I have actually started reading actual novels.
Chris: That is awesome. I love that!
Pam: Wow, you two have made a big impact together. Chris, do you have a favorite book you have read together?
Chris: I really enjoyed the last book we read, “The New Kid.” That is one I might not have read otherwise, but together we really had fun. I really love it when Vivian takes ones of the characters and reads the voice.
Vivian: I make good character noises and it is really funny because I am a voice actress.
Pam: That’s actually my memory of you guys. I remember you both reading with such expression I would think to myself, ‘Are they alright in there? Are they having an argument? Oh no...they are just in character.”
What is one thing your mentee or mentor has taught you, that you will take with you when you graduate or move on to 7th grade?
Vivian: Reading actual novels! :)
Chris: Vivian has taught me how to have fun! When I first started meeting with Vivian I thought we had to be very serious and do reading every time, because that was the purpose. But the purpose is to hang out, and have fun, and talk about stuff.
What is one thing you will miss now that Vivian is graduating from Everybody Wins! Twinfield?
Vivian: Everything. I love her.
Chris: It is the highlight of my week, so I will miss that.
