What Peer Mentors Have to Say
Sally & Lilith Reflect on their 2 year friendship!
Sally and Lilith, do you have a favorite memory together?
Lilith: Last year, in the winter, when they still had the swing up. We went to sit on it and the swing slid out from under us and we fell. We sat there looking at each other for a few seconds, then we burst out laughing.
Sally Chimed in: It was a little painful, but that’s ok, it made for a really good memory
Do you have a favorite activity that you like to do together?
Sally: We play mancala and the bee game a lot.
Lilith Added: But I am a little sulky because Sally usually wins the bee game.
What is one thing your mentee or mentor has taught you, that you will take with you when you graduate or move on to 7th grade?
Sally: Honestly, a lot of things. She taught me to be more creative because she is so creative. She taught me to not take things so seriously. It sounds pretty cheesy, but it’s true.
Lilith: Yeah, I’m a pretty chill person.
Sally: I appreciate that about Lilith because sometimes it’s hard for me not to think about everything that is coming next.
Lilith: Sally has taught me not to worry about testing so much. She supported me in being calmer about it all.
What is one thing you will miss about your mentee when you go to college next year?
Sally: So many things. Mentoring was a nice thing to do away from reality- it was nice to have the time to play games, talk and have fun. I will miss her perspective on things as well. I’ve been here at Twinfield since preschool, and I’ve been through what she’s been through, and it’s cool to hear a different perspective. She will talk about something and I will think, ‘I remember that!’ but her story will be different than mine. It’s kinda cool.
