Everybody Wins! Mentoring
Virtual Reading Sessions!
Stay connected with your mentee this year from the comfort of your own home! Sessions will be structured with the same routines in mind as in person mentoring (Arrive, Reconnect, Read-Aloud, Play a game, Say goodbye). We will practice together as mentors first, and support on using zoom and online books will be provided virtually or in person as needed (with distancing guidelines of course).
Here is a general sketch of what your mentoring session will look like
Here is a general sketch of what your mentoring session will look like
- Arrive (5 Minutes)
- Log onto the scheduled zoom call and connect with other mentors and mentees that are meeting at the same time.
- Once you and your mentee are ready, you will be placed in a “break-out” room so the two of you can read in a quiet space.
- Mentoring in a break out room (35 minutes)
- Reconnect: Spend the first few minutes sharing about how things are going. Consider this your time walking down the hall from the classroom to the library.
- Read: Using Green Mountain library Consortium (GMLC) ebooks you can read a book to your mentee while they read along. You will share your screen so you will be looking at the same book at the same time. (using GMLC & how to screen share will be explained at a later date - it is relatively simple)
- Play a game: There are lots of simple games you can play on zoom if you choose to play a game together at the end. New games will be shared each week so you can decide together what games you might want to play.
- Say Goodbye (5 minutes)
- A few minutes before the session is about to end you will get a timed reminder on your screen counting down the time.
- This will be a good time for you to finish up what you are doing and talk about what you might like to do together next week.
- When the timer goes off - you will be placed back into the large group. We can all say farewell to each other and share what is working in zoom sessions and what could make it better for the next week.
Thank you to our 20 mentor pairs for a great year of Friendship & Fun!
Everybody Wins! is about relationships! Mentors are matched with mentees that have similar interests, so the friendships that grow over time become meaningful and rewarding for both the mentor and mentee. Just read the 2016-2017 survey results below to see how important this hour a week is to our mentors, our youth and our school community!

Gift Books
Gift books will be given to students twice a year to ensure that all children have books to call their own, allowing them to read more often for pleasure.

Literacy Event
A literacy event is held each year so parents will have a chance to meet their children’s reading mentors and to promote the importance of literacy skills for children to succeed in school.

Summer Pen Pals
Mentors and mentees make postcards so they can keep in touch over the summer.

End of the year Breakfast Celebration
On June 3rd Everybody Wins! mentors, mentees and families came together to celebrate a wonderful year of reading together. We made bookmarks to use for our summer reading, and decorated postcards to keep in touch over the summer. |
