Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI)
Our AmeriCorps member Fiona has organized a series of picture books, graphic novels, and chapter books which celebrate our rich past, present, and future by highlighting diverse identities, cultures, and stories. These books have a specific focus on cultural awareness, notable figures, and moments of resistance and change. We value the intergenerational relationships built through the mentoring program, and would like to create a space to reflect on the past and dream of a better future. We believe this series emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) will allow us to do both.  Check out her book selections here!

Choose a “Poem for Two Voices” and practice reading it. One person reads the left side, another person reads the right side, and you both read the middle together. Pick a character or part of the poem you want to create into a hat, then perform your poem! Reach out for poem ideas and hat materials.

When war came to Syria, many fled the once-beautiful city of Aleppo and were forced to become refugees in far-flung places.
