Choose a “Poem for Two Voices” and practice reading it. One person reads the left side, another person reads the right side, and you both read the middle together. Pick a character or part of the poem you want to create into a hat, then perform your poem! Reach out for poem ideas and hat materials.

Read or listen to the book Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes. Then make your own paper flowers. Watch this video to explain how to make the flowers, or use your imagination.

Read or listen to the book Friends, written and illustrated by Helme Heine. Then create your own unique friendship bracelet. You can watch this video that will explain how to braid a bracelet, or for a more simple design request some beads and string from the mentoring office! Piggie & Elephant are great friends, and they just can't believe that they are in a book! After reading, or listening, to one of these books with your friend, make your own finger puppets! You can request a copy of one or more of these creative Mo Willem's books to read together, or listen online.

Read the book The Wish Tree by Kyo Maclear (or watch the video) with your mentor/mentee. Then use the template and art materials to create your own wish tree. This is a great opportunity to talk about some wishes you have for the upcoming year, Be sure to add your wishes to your own wish tree! ​
